“Instagrammable” is an adjective used to describe things, people, and situations that aren’t only photogenic, but also worthy of being found on the social media Instagram.
WHERE DID IT COME FROM ?
For those living under a rock: Instagram is a social media which, since 2010, allows users to capture their daily life and share it either durably on their “wall” (or to use the correct jargon, “feed”) or temporarily on their daily “story”. This is how the term “instagrammable” gradually entered our everyday language, especially among young people, to the point of being consecrated by the Cambridge Dictionary.
EXAMPLE?
A friend you haven’t seen for a year has changed a lot. As you tell them about the name you’re thinking of giving your child, they cut you off: “Oh my God, this is so instagrammable!” On the table in front of you, two glasses of Spritz with crystalline bubbles and perfectly shaped orange slices arouse their new photographic obsession; and so in one click, your private moment becomes part of the procession of snapshots which they compulsively post on their daily “story”.
