Aim of the workshop: to become aware of the three dimensions of human activity – “labour”, “work”, and “action” – and how they describe your own professional life. 

In her video about the philosopher Hannah Arendt, Anne-Sophie Moreau explains how this distinction can help us give more meaning to our professional lives. 

The following workshop is designed to help you further reflect on this idea among colleagues.

Phase 1 > Finding the points of tension 

(30 minutes)

(15 minutes) Form 3 groups. Each one is to focus on one of the 3 categories of activity highlighted by Arendt – “labour”, “work”, and “action” – and try to identify how they play out within your company.

What real life examples or aspects of company life embody “labour”, which is simply a means of subsistence? Or “work”, which has a practical outcome? Or “action”, by which, according to Arendt, we make a differen…
